ACHIEVE Project Achieves Key Milestones in Preparation for BiMEP Deployment

The ACHIEVE team is focused on the procurement and manufacture of the ACHIEVE CETO wave energy prototype in advance of deployment at the Biscay Marine Energy Platform (BiMEP). Recent achievements include the procurement of core drivetrain components, including generators and gearboxes, and progressing the fabrication of components such as the tensioner and tensioner limiter/clutch. The team continues to actively engage with the project’s supply chain partners including local manufacturers for the buoyant actuator (BA), the CETO system's prime mover.

The system's performance and reliability will be evaluated through a series of upcoming tests. Electrical bring-up testing in Bilbao will focus on confirming the correct operation of the electrical systems and connections. Following this, back-to-back testing in Germany will be performed to assess the system's ability to handle sustained power generation and its overall efficiency. These tests will help demonstrate the system's readiness for real-world marine conditions and mitigate potential risks. The team is also focused on operational readiness, with a comprehensive review and refinement of operation and maintenance (O&M) strategies underway.

The ACHIEVE Programme team remains committed to stakeholder engagement and knowledge dissemination. Having recently settling into a new office space in Bilbao, the team has hosted student visitors at its office. The team also continues to engage with the local community through conferences and events. The ACHIEVE Project Manager is set to present at the upcoming World Maritime Week event in Bilbao, focusing on the CETO deployment during the Marine Energy Week presentations.
