Arrecife’s Trimaran concludes its wave tank testing campaign at the IH Cantabria Laboratory in Spain

Arrecife Energy Systems has recently completed a tank testing campaign of its Trimaran project as part of EuropeWave’s Pre-Commercial Procurement programme. Inspired by the behaviour of coral reefs absorbing the energy of the breaking waves, this innovative device efficiently captures power from the movement of the ocean waves.

The device’s geometry is similar to a trimaran structure and incorporates multiple turbines and generators which can provide more constant and continuous energy delivery to the grid. The model was tested at 1:20 scale using 3D-printed turbines in combination with flat blade impellers to simulate the PTO resistance, enabling a better estimation of the device’s power output and energy production.
