The emWave consortium completes tests of an electroactive membrane PTO and a floating foundation structure

Through the EuropeWave programme, Bombora Wave Power and consortium partner Scuola Superiore Sant'Anna have successfully completed their testing campaign at the University of Edinburgh’s FloWave facility investigating a dielectric elastomer generator (DEG) power take-off (PTO) module and a semi-submersible foundation platform.

The extensive programme of tests under a wide range of conditions, including extreme waves, has confirmed platform system loads and dynamics and provided an invaluable dataset for validating numerical model predictions of the physical and electrical response of the DEG membrane in the PTO module.
