The ACHIEVE project completes over 200 tests in Spanish test tank

The CETO Wave Energy Ireland team has completed a three-week tank testing campaign of the Carnegie Clean Energy CETO wave energy device at the IH Cantabria Coastal and Ocean Basin in Spain.

Supported by the EU-funded EuropeWave project, the ‘ACHIEVE’ project (Advanced CETO for High Impact and Efficiency Validation in Europe) carried out tank testing of an improved design of its CETO device.

The project team conducted over 200 tests during the campaign at the testing facility in Spain and was very pleased with the device’s performance in the simulated wave conditions. In addition, the tank testing was also independently evaluated to validate CETO’s energy capture efficiency in European wave conditions.

As part of EuropeWave Phase 1, the project team also advanced the CETO prototype design to progress to future phases of the programme. The device can be refined further during Phase 2 and Phase 3 for deployment at the open water facilities either in the Basque Country or in Scotland. In addition to the tank testing campaign, the project team also visited BiMEP and the nearby port of Bilbao in July to explore the port’s deployment support capabilities.
