Blue Horizon 250
Mocean’s recognisable WEC architecture: a hinged raft with forward and aft wave channels, electric PTO and geometrically optimised using Mocean’s in-house expertise, is already established and proven via the WES NWEC program.
Mocean’s new product line, Blue Horizon, is a medium to large scale hinged raft incorporating innovative features to maximise AEP , which built upon the success of the state-of-the-art Blue X prototype.
At 250kW scale, the commercial applications of Blue Horizon are: diesel replacement in off grid applications, offshore platforms, offshore aquaculture, remote communities, islands and remote resorts.
Improvements over the state of the art will be achieved by improvements in all areas (power performance, availability, survivability and affordability), notably:
The innovative wave channels at the ends maximise power capture.
The Vernier Hybrid Machine direct drive generators convert mechanical power to electrical at very low speeds with high efficiency.
As a company, Mocean benefits from an advanced starting position, providing a high level of confidence, from which we will develop a range of improvements in pursuit of Europewave’s objectives.
For Europewave , Mocean propose to build the WEC at a 250 kW scale, and bringing in additional funding as required to support manufacture and operations. This ambitious target is to both maximise the benefits of the Europewave program and accelerate the technology as far as possible towards commercialization.
